Access Your Electronic Medical Records
The law has changed how much medical providers can charge for medical records. For years, Washington law (RCW 70.02.010 and WAC 246-08-400) controlled what a provider could charge for coping records. This law was enacted because healthcare providers had to pay staff to manually photocopy the records. To off-set that expense, providers were allowed to charge per page for copies, often times $1.12 per page.

However, the law has changed because many medical providers now maintain their records electronically. According to the Federal Law (which Trumps state law), providers may only charge a reasonable fee, which in many cases if $6.50 for a CD of your medical records.
